Sylvia Jane Cox White, (nee Cox), passed away on November 21, 2022, following a slow decline in her health over the past few years.
Known as Grammy, Aunt Sib or Sibby to her family and friends, she was born on February 21, 1928, in Cambridge, MD to Bradford and Jenny Cox, the fourth of their five children. Her family moved to Carney's Point when she was still a very young girl and she graduated from Penns Grove High School in 1945. Sibby's brothers, Brad, Clinton and Ted and sister, Mary McLaughlin, together with all their spouses, have predeceased her, as well as, her daughter-in-law, Julie in 2016. She was married to the late Bill White of Salem who passed away in 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Buechler and husband, Bill of Elsinboro; her son, Bill of Lawrenceville, Georgia; her grandchildren, Jenna McMahon & husband, Alex of Middletown, DE, Kim Miller & husband, Rob of Pennsville, Beth Ann Paek & husband, Johnny and Kevin White, all of Atlanta, Georgia; her great grandchildren, Liam, Rory and Aiden McMahon, Madison Wright and Vivi Paek; several nieces, nephews and their families, all who she loved dearly and who still live in Salem County. Sibby was the quintessential lady of her time. She was always dressed to the nines with everything matching from head to toe. Sibby worked at DuPont briefly after graduation and soon met the guy who would become her husband for the next 63 and a half years. They were married in 1946 and settled in Salem. She doted on her children from the time they woke each day until she tucked them in their beds each evening. As time moved on, she worked as a legal secretary in Salem but being "Mom" was always her primary vocation. Over the years, Sibby and Bill briefly lived in Houston, TX, Toledo, OH and Richland, WA but no matter where they lived her heart and mind was always centered on her family. Sibby was a friend to many over her lifetime and was always focused on what she could do for others. She was the last member of our family to be a part of "The Greatest Generation". Sibby was a good and decent person no matter the circumstances. She has already made Heaven an even more special place.
Services will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 26th in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem Quinton Rd., Salem, NJ 08079 (Quinton Twp.) where friends and family may call from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
