Salvatore DeGrotto Obituary

Salvatore DeGrotto, age 80, of Elsinboro died on February 4 2020 at William H. Courtney VA Center, Temple Texas.

Born in Salem, he was the son of late John and Josephine Monte DeGrotto. Sal was predeceased by his wife, Grace Emma Layton DeGrotto. Sal was employed by Mannington Mills as a Research Technician with 36 years of service, retiring in 2001. He served in the US Air Force  from 1959 to 1965. Sal enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing the lottery. He also enjoyed singing as a member of the Barber Shop Chorus of DE. Sal was a member of Daughters of America with his wife Grace. He was a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church on Market St in Salem NJ, where he served on the vestry, was president of the Men’s Club, a former member of the church choir and was a cook for the church.

He is survived by his stepchildren, David A. Roberts of SC, Patricia A. Bowman of Deepwater, Ethel M. Townley of TX, Grace E. Nixon (Harold) of FL, April Mulholland (Louis) of Bridgeton, Sharon L Weaver (Mark) of TX, Edith Moriarty (Tom) of FL, Faith Lloyd (Monte) of NC, and Christine Washington (Timothy) of Quinton. And predeceased by three stepsons, Joseph Hitchner of TX, William H Roberts Jr of MD and Otis W. Roberts of Salem. He was  also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Steve DeGrotto, Josephine Godish, Grace LaSpada, Ida Brown, Russell DeGrotto and Joseph DeGrotto.  Sal left behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews, Steve DeGrotto, Tom Brown Jr, Russell Brown, Jeanie Harwood, Sandra Dee, Tina LaSpada, Jackie LaSpada, Tony Mungioli, John DeGrotto, Tracy Caraballo, Delores Speakman, Ann Love and Josephine Cogdill. 

Services will be held Wednesday, February 12th at Saint John’s Episcopal Church of Salem, where friends may call between 9:30am thur 11:00am.  Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.  Donations can be sent to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or Heart Of Texas Hospice, 4003 W Stan Schlueter Loop Ste 2, Killeen, Tx 76542
