Gladys Lillya Obituary

Gladys A. Lillya, age 94, of Mannington passed away Thursday, February 13th at her home. 

Born in Quinton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle Grosscup Allen.  Gladys was a Salem High School graduate who worked at E.I. DuPont Co. Chambers Works during WWII and Heinz in Salem before becoming a homemaker and working with her husband, George on their farm in Mannington.  Gladys was a member of the Haines Neck United Methodist Church and she was a volunteer at Sharptown United Methodist Church for Senior Citizen's luncheons.  She was a 4-H leader for several years and enjoyed traveling to Farm Bureau Conventions, gardening and pinochle.  Gladys was known for her delicious cooking, especially cinnamon buns and being known as the tomato lady by some who frequented her tomato stand out front of the farm.  Gladys and her husband, George, who were married for 54 years, enjoyed dancing at the Algonquin Club.  She is survived by her son, Martin Lillya (Joan); daughters, Donna Madara (James) and Bonnie Dunn; grandchildren, Britney and Patrick Lillya, Kevin (Amanda) and Steven Madara; great-grandchildren, Liam, Amina and Andie; step-children, Gerald (Kippy), Ruth Gainer (Romie , deceased), Shirley Williams (Jesse) and Karla Emberling (Ron).  Gladys is predeceased by her husband, George G. Lillya; daughter-in-law, Janine Lillya; her grandson, Taylor Lillya; brother, Edwin Allen and twin brother, Lesie Allen. 

Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 19th in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gladys' memory may be sent to Haines Neck United Methodist Church, 231 Haines Neck Rd., Salem, NJ 08079 or to ALS Foundation, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Rd., Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002-2755.
