Douglas W. Powell, age 78, of Quinton passed away Wednesday, February 17th in Salem Medical Center. Born in Roanoke, VA, he was the son of the late James and Maggie Johnson Powell. Douglas was a U.S. Navy Veteran who after working for 20 yrs for Atlantic Aviation became a crane operator for Warren Inc. He was an exempt fireman of the Liberty Fire Dept. of Salem who enjoyed NASCAR.
Douglas is survived by his daughters, Sandra Powell of Salem and Lisa Powell of Pennsville; his long term companion, Elizabeth Rogers and her son, Devon Rogers of Quinton; his former wife , Grace Powell; sisters, Eva Stucker of Poplar Bluff, MO and Jane Purvis of Lexington, VA. He is predeceased by his infant son, Douglas James Powell; brother, Richard Powell; sister, Nancy Clark; and Bennie Myers, who raised Douglas, of Natural Bridge, VA.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM with services to follow Thursday, February 25th in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem-Quinton Rd., Rt. 49, Salem, NJ 08079 (Quinton Twp.) Interment with military honors will be in Salem County Veteran's Cemetery. Contributions in Douglas' memory may be sent to the Salem Fire Dept., 17 New Market Street, Salem, NJ 08079.
