Evelyn Marie (Shimp) Weigel

Evelyn Marie (Shimp) Weigel age 92, formerly of Mannington went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 26.   She passed, surrounded by her family, at her home in Holland, MI. Born in Hancock’s Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Sr. and Helen (Plummer) Shimp. Evelyn was president of the Women’s Club at Broadway United Methodist Church. She enjoyed time as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member and flower steward for many years. She enjoyed hosting church wide picnics on the family farm and helped with the yearly church bazaar. Evelyn was a past member of the Mannington Township Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary. She continued to serve her community of Mannington as a member of the PTA and founding member of the Mannington Swim Club. Her husband, Tom, and her often entertained friends at the farm for wintertime tractor sledding, square dance groups and New Year’s Eve parties. Evelyn loved baking, entertaining and opening up her home during summer vacations for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored. She is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Thomas Weigel, Jr. She is survived by son Dale Weigel (Steve Markham), Gail Weigel (mother of Heather, Craig & Joanna), Granddaughter Heather Schneider (Frank), Grandson Craig Weigel (Carmen) and Granddaughter Joanna Mierkowicz (Joe), and 8 Great Grandchildren--Sarah and Matt Schneider, Caden, Colton and Cooper Weigel, and Tyler, Evan and Drew Mierkowicz, all who live in Michigan.  In addition to her parents and beloved Tom, she was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Shimp, Jr. 
 

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday January 2, 2020, in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem-Quinton Rd., RT. 49, Quinton Twp. where friends may call after 10:00 AM.  Burial will be in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove. Contributions in Mrs. Weigel's memory may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church, 115 1/2 W. Broadway, Salem, NJ 08079.
