Clara Tweedle Obituary

Clara N. Tweedle, 96, of Quinton, passed peacefully on December 10, 2019 at Merion Gardens Assisted Living.  She was born September 4, 1923 to parents Leon and Alexandra (nee Lukinovich) Nickovich. She lived her early life in California, PA and most of her last seventy years at her house in Quinton, NJ. She met her husband Thomas Tweedle, while she was an airplane mechanic and he was a soldier at an Army air field during World War II.  They married in 1944 and raised two children.

After the war, she did a few odd jobs around Salem county. In 1950, she began working as a mechanic at Bellanca Air Service Corporation in Delaware, until they closed in 1952.  She then started working at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant on the New Jersey Turnpike. In 1972, she initiated and managed the student center snack bar, prepared and served dinners to the Board of Trustees, and later transitioned into an office aid and mail clerk position at the Salem County Community College.  She retired in 1992. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, knitting, quilting, making beaded Christmas stockings, doing crossword puzzles and reading. She enjoyed traveling to various Ruritan conferences, and visiting various family members in different parts of this country. She spent much of her summer time with family and friends at her shore property outside Ocean City, NJ. The last four years she has been a resident of Merion Gardens Assisted Living in Penns Grove.

Wife of the late Thomas S. Tweedle, she is survived by her son, Thomas S. Tweedle Jr. (Sonja), and daughter, Sandra L. Craig (James); 5 grandchildren, Thomas “Scott” Tweedle III (Amy),  David Tweedle (Chandra), Deborah Dukes (Brad), Ryan Craig, and Jared Craig (Kimberleigh);  and 8 great grandchildren,  Thomas S. IV, Caleb, Brookes, Glenna, Grace, Karis, Anya, and Marleigh.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; brothers, George and John, and sisters-in-law Clara, and Mary.
