Verna Smith Northam (Hymer), departed this earth on January 23rd to begin her life in heaven with God, her parents, husband, children, grandchildren and many friends.
She was born in Salem on July 11th 1938 to Mary Anna and Herbert Hymer. Verna raised six children while working and taking care of a home. She worked several jobs and finished her career by caring for the elderly as a home health aide. Verna was an active member of her church, Salem Weslyan, and loved serving God and her community. Verna enjoyed telling stories, she seemed to have known everyone in Salem county. She enjoyed word search puzzles, crafts and most importantly, bingo. Verna loved the Lord, her family, her dog, Fluffy and her chickens. Verna resided in Salem at Golden Nursing Home. She enjoyed her time there with her friends and spent her days teasing the nurses and assistants. Verna is survived by her children, Phillip Gannon, Jr. (Sue), Leroy Gannon (Darlene), Phyllis Williams (Will) and Harold Gannon; siblings, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be terribly missed by all.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, January 26th, 2018 in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem-Quinton Rd., Rt. 49, Quinton Twp. where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove. Following the burial a luncheon will be held at the home of Cheri and Shalayby Parsons, 104 Quinton-Alloway Rd., Salem, NJ 08079.
