Melvin W. Thomas III, age 71, of Lower Alloway's Creek passed away Tuesday, February 27th in Christiana Medical Center, Newark, DE.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Melvin W. and Elizabeth Sayers Thomas, Jr. Mr. Thomas was a US Army veteran. Before his retirement, Mr. Thomas was a Woodstown High School science teacher for 28 years then he taught at the Salem Christian Academy for 8 1/2 years. Melvin was a member of the Quinton Baptist Church where he was very involved with the church ministry. He was a Dive Master and also had his Master's Captain's License in sailing. Melvin enjoyed fishing, sailing and spending time with his family, especially sailing with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, the former Joyce Dunn Thomas; his sons, Melvin Thomas IV (Lisa) of Newark, DE and Nathaniel Thomas (Stephanie) of Stone Creek, OH; his daughter, Rachel Jardim (Christopher) of Pennsville; sister, Patricia Thomas of Pennsville; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 3rd in the Quinton Baptist Church, 46 Main St., Quinton where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Salem County Veteran's Cemetery, Pilesgrove. Contributions in his memory may be sent to the Quinton Baptist Church, PO Box 6, Quinton, NJ 08072.
